After the end of each holiday our lecturer always asks us whether or not we had done any work experience during our time away from uni. She would always explain the importance of work experience.
Until last week I had never managed to get a proper journalistic work experience, I has spent a day at SKY studios once before entering University and then I helped around here and there a couple of days, but nothing inside an office. And I never really understood the importance of it all. Read the rest of this entry »
Jade Goody Kissing Boyfriend the day before the wedding.
First of all I would like to say that I do have compassion for Jade Goody. As a person who once was suspected to have cervical cancer, I do feel for her, and I imagine what she probably has gone and is going through.
Just as when Kylie had breast cancer most women decided to examine them selves more frequently, we know that Jade’s cancer has lead more young women to have a smear test done, as shown by this article on The Guardian. This is something positive about the way in which the media is portraying her illness.
However, there are so many other young women out there going through the same thing Jade is going right now, and no one acknowledges it, no one is buying them an expensive wedding dress, and some of them won’t even live to have a wedding. The media is making a lot of fuss, over a person who is not alone out there.
So, what makes Jade more fortunate (in a way) than the other women with terminal cancer, why is she more priviledged, and if she really wants to make people aware of what cancer can do to you, why wouldn she spend such a lot of money on a wedding, when she could send it to CancerResearchUk were the money will be put for a better use.
This is something I have been asking my self over the past couple of weeks. Because when the doctor suspected that I might have had cervical cancer, only my closest friends and family knew about it, and even though inside it was killing me, until I got the all clear, I never let that affect those around me. Maybe that was a strenght, maybe a weakness, but the optimism in me kept me going.
I know Jade wants to make money for her children, and it must be a very sad time for her, but I also think it is a time for us to reflect not only on the celebrities who are going through rought times, but also to think that many people are going through the same nightmare without anyone knowing, without any support, some times all alone.
Those are the people who our thoughts and prayers should be with. I know my thoughts and prayers are with them and their families.
And to Jade, I do send my best wishes, and hopefully she’ll live a lot longer than she expects.
